Approaches Used For Goose Control New York

By Carl Green

When there is an inequity in the ecosystem, it poses as a danger to both the ecosystem and human health. For instance, some levels of goose population can be termed as dangerous due to them having significant negative effects towards the ecosystem therefore, requiring Goose Control New York methods to be applied. There are some accepted strategies which when combined, can effective.

Most of the states have set aside some lethal and non-lethal methods to be used by authorities as well as landowners who have been affected by the increase of the birds. One of the most commonly used strategy is to prevent attraction of the birds. This is done through informing the public to stop giving them any sort of food especially bread. Signage and posts are placed in parks and open spaces to keep people alert.

There can also be regulations set concerning habitat modification. Different fowl species prefer settling down in areas that have neatly cut grass, a water pond and open spaces. This means they are more attracted to private land such as school institutions and parks. Informing land owners on the need to replace the shortly cut grass with long tall vegetation that can survive along water bodies will encumber the fowls from getting attracted.

Since most of the species of these fowl are known to be migratory it means that they have a certain pattern when it comes to breeding. Geese have a life span of about 25 years and start being reproductive as early as 2. Therefore, the nest and egg treatment is also a method to prevent their augmented population. This can be done through destroying the eggs by engrossing them in cooking oil, shaking robustly or puncturing it to destroy the embryo.

The other option is the use of physical means to keep them off your property. Land owners have been advised to get more creative to using the power of eye scare to keep them off such as using scarecrows or figures that emulate the shapes of a dog and a coyote which they are afraid of. Flagging can also work by tying papers to a post to scare them off. Applying this method together with others will bring better results.

You may have heard of bird hunting season in most local areas. This is also a strategy to regulate their population especially in places where they frequent. Local authorities often give permission to hunters at a certain period for them to hunt them down. Hunting together with the use of noise making tools provide a short term solution to reducing their population.

The other possible way to regulate their population is through the use of chemical fertility control. The chemical is usually meant for consumption whereby the birds that have ingested it can still lay eggs but they will not hatch. However, this method is restricted to wildlife and pest control specialists in your state who have a license.

The use of goose repellents is also a practiced method to keep them off. The main repellent used is not harmful for human consumption therefore if sprayed on plants, it can help keep the birds off agricultural plant products.
