By Helen Patterson

Right now as you are reading this you have just newly acquired your concealed carry license or permit plus a new firearm as well. Ad to carry your new firearm around outdoors and concealed will require a holster of course. Some friends and colleagues of yours may have suggested that you get a Kydex concealment holster and you are mulling through the idea. However, prior to your final decision, do read on in this article to find the best holster for yourself.

Kydex is a thermoplastic material that is very durable. It is akin to fiberglass but a lot more tough and pliant. It is also quite lightweight and many prefer ones made of Kydex compared to leather made ones due to this. Despite the differences in materials, you still need to look out for a few key things in getting one for your current needs.

First thing to look out for is its retention capabilities. Retention is basically how well it keeps or holds on to your firearm. You definitely do not want your gun falling out when you do sudden movements such as jumping and running. Retention is a major key to a good holster.

How far it can be adjusted in terms of ride height is also key to a perfect and comfortable fit. In relation to ride height, the cant should also be adjustable. The cant is the angle by which the gun sits inside the holster. Being able to adjust the cant will mean a faster or slower draw depending on the adjustment itself.

Getting one that is molded rather one that is a general fit for all models is much better in the long run. A molded on will ensure that no accidental firings will occur, which can happen when carrying loaded chambers. Ones made out of Kydex will have more varieties for different kinds of models of firearms and will be found much easier than ones made of leather.

Factor in comfort as well as when choosing one. Comfort is important for if you do not have it, you will be less likely to carry your gun around, which will be quite self defeating in the light of a concealed carry permit. Thus over functionality and looks, comfort is something that you must look for however long it takes. Remember that there is one made for you somewhere out there and all you need is to take the time to look.

You should also look at craftsmanship and quality. These are two very important things to consider especially if you want to buy one that will last you for quite a while. You should buy one with the aim of keeping it long enough to hand it down later on. Quality may cost a bit more, but is definitely much more worth it. Always put quality side by side with functionality.

And lastly perhaps it is to get a customized one altogether that is made according to your needs. Definitely a custom made one may be on the expensive side but it will answer all the attributes that you want to have in a good and decent concealment holster.
